William “Bill” Welch 80, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 at MercyOne Westlakes with his son Dan by his side.
Bill was born on October 29, 1940 along with his twin brother, Walter; they were the sons of Oscar and Mary Marguerite Dorothy (Bryenton) Welch. He attended Des Moines Public Schools and graduated from Des Moines Tech in the class of 1959. He joined the United States Navy and served his country honorably for the next 4 years.
On August 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Joyce Pond at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Des Moines and lived and raised their family in Des Moines. He owned and operated a pattern machine shop, Welch Patterns.
Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, playing pool, and wintering in Texas. Bill was a Mason at the South Gate #657 AF & AM Lodge.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory is his son, Dan Welch of Des Moines, grandchildren, Amy (Joel) Klapproth of Altoona, Amanda (Jacob) Carpenter of Des Moines, Jon (Crystal) Welch of Des Moines, great-grandchildren, Travis, Adam, Collin, Bradley, Amber, Landon, Lillyana, Brenden and Breana, and twin brother, Walter (Cora) Welch of Des Moines and friend, Linda Umphress.
In death William rejoins his parents, Oscar and Dorothy Welch, wife Cheryl, son David Welch and sister Dorothy May Keehn.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Faith Independent Assembly of God Church, 6001 S. W. 14th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021 also at the church.
Due to the pandemic mask and social distancing are encouraged.
