Paul Robert Schulte, 61, of Urbandale passed away May 8, 2022 after fighting a courageous
battle with cancer; and we mean it was a fight! Paul, a stubborn German, fought that cancer
with all his might. Paul was born May 30, 1960 in Des Moines, IA to parents Robert Dean and
Betty Jane (Stinehart) Schulte. Paul grew up in West Des Moines and attended WDM schools
before thriving in the carpentry industry.
Paul was an outstanding, skilled carpenter and could make almost anything out of wood. He
was known for his beautiful laminate work. He was also a successful entrepreneur, owning both Schulte Woodworking and Schulte Millworking.
Paul had a great passion for sports cars and owned many fast cars, his favorites being the
many Chevy Corvettes he owned. Paul enjoyed riding motocross motorcycles and going
fishing. He also enjoyed salt water fish and took great pride in taking care of his fish and the
many (extremely) large fish tanks he owned over the years.
Left to cherish Paul’s memory are his daughter Stephanie (Don) Kinna and children Ian,
Cassidy, Caitlyn and Alex; son Chris Schulte; daughter Shawna Schulte; siblings Becky
Blackburn, Rich (Kari) Schulte, Doug (Darcey) Schulte, and Ron (Shelly) Schulte; companion
Shelley Lytle; and nieces, nephews, an aunt, uncles, friends and co-workers. Paul was
preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Harry Blackburn.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Shepherd of the Valley
Lutheran Church, 3900 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, IA, with visitation before the service at 10:00 am. Luncheon and fellowship time will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Paul to the John Stoddard Cancer
Center, 1415 Woodland Ave, Ste E-200, Des Moines, IA 50309.
