Nola Read Nealey

Nola Read Nealey passed away peacefully at Brio of Johnston on August 2, 2026.

Nola was born on November 25, 1934. She grew up in Cresco, IA, and graduated from Cresco High School. She later graduated from Iowa State Teachers College.

Nola met Chuck Nealey and were married on June 3, 1956.

Nola enjoyed teaching prior to the adoption of Nancy and Matthew. She continued as a teacher associate at the Des Moines Public Schools system for 19 years after the kids were older.

She became an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed traveling with Chuck to see the Cubs and all their farm teams play ball.

She was a long-time member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church and the Gyro Club of Des Moines.

Nola's greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through them. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Nancy (Denny) of Ankeny; her son, Matt (Roxy) of Waukee; her cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Madison (Austin), and Morgan; and her beloved great-grandson, Luca, who brought her so much happiness. She is also survived by her sister, Cindy, as well as many treasured nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life well lived on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be shared at the church immediately following the service, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather in fellowship and honor cherished memories. Interment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery will take place at a later date.
