Mary Lou “Firecracker” Scigliano, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on April 14, 2021 at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mary Lou Scigliano was born on July 4, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa; she was the daughter of Neeley and Helen (Dalton) Kern. She was united in marriage in Des Moines to the love of her life Joseph P. Scigliano Sr. and was blessed with 6 children, Barbara, Mark, Kim, Robert, Joe, and stepson Albert. She worked as a healthcare provider for 25 years. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, especially her Italian spaghetti dinners on Sunday for her family, reading, word puzzles, playing cards, gardening, watching CNN and listening to Elvis Presley and Blake Shelton. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara (Lane) Lenz, Mark Scigliano, Kim Floyd, Robert Floyd, Joe Scigliano Jr. and stepson, Albert Scigliano, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, half brother John Kilgore and sister-in-law Diane Kern and Dottie Kern.
In death Mary Lou rejoins her parents Neeley and Helen Kern, husband Joseph P. Scigliano, brothers Fred, Ray, Richard and Norman, sisters-in-law Cleta Kern and Elaine Kern.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Brooks Funeral Care (formerly known as Tonini), 2135 S.W. 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral Services will follow at 6:00 p.m. Per Mary Lou’s wishes she has been cremated and burial will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the National Heart Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
