In Loving Memory . . .

Mary Ellen Selby

January 15, 1936 - June 16, 2026

Mary Ellen was born on January 15, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Lawrence V. and Mary Alberta (Plummer) Toomey. On January 17, 1953, she married Robert Glenn “Bob” Selby, and together they made their home in Pleasantville, Iowa. Mary Ellen and Bob enjoyed bowling, camping, watching Bears football, and spending time with family and friends. She loved singing, Elvis Presley, and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with best friend, Shirley Gordon. In her last few years, she never missed a Caitlin Clark game and enjoyed playing bingo and taking part in other activities with friends.

Mary Ellen passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 90 years and five months. She was preceded in death by her parents; her adoring and devoted husband, Bob; her brothers, Tommy and Larry; and her sisters, Rosalind, Barb, and Maureen.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Cynthia Sue Clark (Bruce), Sandra Marie Bennett (Rick), and Robin Ann Russo (Mike) of Pleasantville; and her son, Robert Glenn II (Jennifer Kilby) of Altoona. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Nathan Clark, Aaron Clark, Jami Sinclair, Kelly Bennett, Tommy Johns, Tara Williams, Kindsey Noboa, Alec Kilby, and Mason Kilby; sixteen loving great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

A Graveside Service celebrating Mary Ellen’s life will be held Saturday, June 27th at 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasantville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Homestead of Knoxville.

May the road rise to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face, T

he rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
