Lorraine Dee Scott was born on January 7, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ruth and Jerry Peacock. She was one of ten children and cherished the love and connection of her large family throughout her life. Lorraine passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on June 9, 2026, at the age of 67.
Lorraine was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness touched many lives. She lovingly raised her four children and opened her heart and home as a foster mother to many others. For years, Lorraine operated an in-home daycare, where every child she cared for became part of her extended family. Her gentle nature, caring spirit, and selfless love left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Lorraine found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading romance novels, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with those she loved most. Her greatest happiness came from caring for her family and helping others, always putting the needs of those around her before her own.
She is survived by her children, Michael Jr. (December), Nathanael, Travis, and Alison Scott; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her siblings, Frances (Jack) Brown, Jerry Jr. (Eve) Peacock, Pauline (Jerry) Peacock, Connie (Gary) DeBord, Terry Peacock, Alan (Kelly) Peacock, Chris (Teresa) Peacock, Timmy Peacock, and Andy Peacock; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Jerry Peacock.
A graveside service celebrating Lorraine's life will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 1741 R45 Hwy, Cumming, Iowa 50061.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Michael or Travis Scott. The family will thoughtfully designate these gifts to a charitable organization of their choosing, honoring Lorraine's memory through a future contribution.
Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to join the family for a light lunch at Chesterfield Park (2719 Scott Ave., Des Moines, IA 50317).
Guests are welcome to bring a lawn chair for seating. Families with children may wish to bring an extra change of clothes, as the park features a splash pad.
Though Lorraine will be deeply missed, her love, compassion, and the countless lives she touched will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
