Larry Joe “Buckwheat” was born on October 15, 1949 to Newton and Carolyn Bartholomew. He attended Carlisle Consolidated grade school, junior high and high school and graduated in 1968. He found his place at Carlisle Care Center, the very same place where he died. He worked as the laundry attendant for 20 years and retired in 1999.

In March of 1976, he married Arlynn Moore of Carlisle. They had two daughters, Lindsay and Shawna.

Larry Joe enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with his buddies at the VFW and My Sister’s Place. He was a gentle and loyal friend. He also enjoyed fishing with his brother at some of the local farm ponds around Carlisle. Larry Joe entertained himself at the Casino from time to time. He also enjoyed celebrating holidays and birthdays with his daughters and grandkids.

Larry Joe is survived by his daughters, Lindsay and Shawna (Rocky), both of Carlisle; brother, Chuck Bartholomew of Carlisle; sister, Janet Van Ryswyk (Dean), of Indianola; grandson, Logan Wolfe, of Newton; Kyndal Chiles, of Carlisle; and many extended family members. He prized his friendships and will be missed by all.
