Kathryn “Kate” Easton (nee Henry) passed away on June 15, 2026, at the tender age of 47 plus 1 day. Born in Eureka, South Dakota, Kate was raised in Mina Lake, South Dakota where she learned to think creatively and discovered her artistic nature. After dabbling in college life, she met and married Phil Easton, then moved to Iowa where she worked for a time at Walmart.

However, her true passion and calling was tirelessly focusing on raising and advocating for her children who were the light of her life. This included their proud participation in and support of the Special Olympics. She was an amazing and fiercely dedicated mom to Justyne (21), Brenden (18), Sebastian (10), and Cheadi-Lyn (9). They already miss her more than the moon and stars.

In this last year, Kate was on an incredible new journey of discovery and independence but never lost sight of what was most important to her; her children, her family, and her friends.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah. She is survived by her parents Larry Henry, Christine Schumacher, and Jim Schumacher; her siblings Terri Calomino, Brenden Henry, Sarah Henry, and Jimmy Schumacher; her brother-in-law Joe Calomino and nieces and nephews Karrie, Joey, and Liberty. We are all heartbroken at the thought of a world without Kate’s light and laughter in it, and will cherish each and every silly, loving, tender and joyous memory we have of her.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, June 22nd from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 pm, with a celebration of life to begin at 6:30 pm, at Brooks Funeral Care (2135 SW 9th St. Des Moines.)

In lieu of flowers, the family greatly appreciates contributions to a fund established for her four children. For donation information, please contact Terri Calomino at (847) 309-7577, or tcal1031@hotmail.com. Your kindness and generosity will be a lasting tribute to her love and devotion as a mother.
