John was born November 2, 1937 in Arkoma, Oklahoma and died July 12, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Dewitt and Cora Bell (Davenport) Bunch.
John worked as a plumber at the Iowa State Fairgrounds for 25 years. Some things John enjoyed was treasure hunting and traveling, he made it to 49 of 50 states (missing Hawaii), and also made it to the Bahamas, Canada, and Italy. In his spare time he loved to garden, especially his roses, blueberries, and okra.
John is survived by his wife, Mattie May Schuler Bunch; four children: John T. (Karen) of Colorado, Paul (Joleen) of West Des Moines, Nathan (Lisa) of Grimes, and Richard (Nicole) of Bevington; twelve grandchildren: Lacy Dickey (Christopher) of California, Levi Bunch of Des Moines, Stephanie Slifka (Kyle) of West Des Moines, Cory Bunch (Kodi) of West Des Moines, Troy Bunch (Chelsi) of Ankeny, Shelby Doyle (Drew) of Altoona, Johnathan Bunch (Courtney) of Phoenix, Arizona, Sarah Bunch of Phoenix, Arizona, Zachary Bunch of Bevington, Philip Easton (Shannon) of St. Mary’s, Ashley Holland (Glenn) of Missouri, and John C. Bunch of Winterset; eleven great-grandchildren: Evan Dickey, Noah Dickey, Liam Dickey, Claire Bunch, Ryan Bunch, Weston Slifka, Kali Bunch, Kane Bunch, Sophia Doyle, Brantley Doyle, and Sloane Bunch; and two brothers, Jim Bunch of Texas and Ralph Bunch of New Mexico.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Robert Bunch, Dewitt Bunch, Bill Bunch, and Nancy McFarlane. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be given to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1385 Buffalo Road, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.
