Gerald “Jerry” Murphy 79, passed away at home on Monday, September 27, 2021.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Brooks Funeral Home, 2135 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.
Gerald Matthew Murphy was born on January 29, 1942, in Estherville, Iowa: he was the son of Emmet and Emma (Murphy) Murphy. He graduated with the class of 1959 from Graettinger Iowa High School, in Graettinger, Iowa. Gerald served his country honorably in the United States Army. On June 19, 1965, Gerald was united in marriage to Nancy Lee Long in Des Moines, Iowa at St Ambrose Catholic Church and continued living and raised their children in Des Moines, Iowa. Gerald was self-employed at Murphy Pest Control. He loved to have coffee at local establishments and enjoy visiting with everyone as he knew no strangers.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56, years Nancy, children, Matthew James (Maria) Murphy, Kristin Lee (Mike) Bentley and Melissa Sue Murphy, 6 grandchildren 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
In death Gerald rejoins his parents, Emmet, and Emma Murphy.
