Duayne I. Newhard, 85, passed away on September 9, 2026, at Bickford Memory Care in West Des Moines, IA. He was born on April 30, 1941, in Meadville, PA. to Wayne I. and Bertha (Rice) Newhard.
Throughout his life he called several places home. He lived in Conneautville, Titusville, and Palmyra, PA before moving to Iowa. After moving to Iowa, he lived in Marshalltown, Des Moines and West Des Moines. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and attended Grand View University.
Duayne spent seven years in the Army reserves and worked for over 33 years for the United States Postal Service before retiring in 2000. He enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards and traveling with family and friends.
He married Sharon (Kent) Nauman on July 4, 1977, and accepted her boys as his own. He is survived by Sharon, his two sons, Mitchell (Jolene) Nauman of Norman, OK, and Russell (Diane) Nauman of Des Moines, IA, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by two half-brothers, Mark Newhard of Lancaster, CA, and Mike Newhard of Ankeny, IA.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on September 11, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Chapel 7601 Fleur Dr. Des Moines IA 50321. Duayne will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. on September 12, 2026, at Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa.
