Dixie Lee Long, age 82, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at Taylor House Hospice.

Dixie was born to Robert Taylor Jones Sr. and Doris May (Pickett) Jones. She grew up alongside her two younger brothers, Frank and Robert Jr. "Bobby." She was baptized at the age of 10 at Chesterfield Church in Des Moines, and her faith in Christ remained a guiding foundation throughout her life.

On August 18, 1961, Dixie married the love of her life, Ronald Eugene Long. Together they shared 50 years of marriage filled with love, devotion, and family until his passing. Dixie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who deeply cherished her family and the life they built together.

Dixie dedicated her early years to being a homemaker, a role she embraced wholeheartedly while raising her three sons. Her greatest joy was her family, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Dixie also worked as a Hy-Vee cake decorator and later at ABC Preschool. After her retirement, she enjoyed a quieter life alongside her husband, Ron, filled with family, faith, and simple joys. Dixie loved shopping, crafting, tending to her flowers, attending church as a proud member of Evergreen Church of Christ, and relaxing with her favorite television shows.

She will be remembered for her fierce devotion, quick-witted humor, and wonderfully ornery spirit, as well as the warmth, creativity, and deep love she poured into her home and family.

She is survived by her sons, Scott Alan Long and Steven Eugene Long; her daughter-in-law, Melody Long; along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Taylor Jones Sr. and Doris May Jones; her husband, Ronald Eugene Long; her brothers, Frank Jones and Robert "Bobby" Jones Jr.; her son, Danny Lee Long Sr.; and her grandson, Stephen Wade Gruwell Long.
