Danny Lee Long Sr.

Updated: Sep 18

Danny Lee Long Sr., 59, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, at Taylor Hospice House. Born on July 14, 1966, in Des Moines, Danny lived a full and meaningful life rooted in hard work, deep love for family, and a passion for the outdoors.

A proud union laborer with Local 177, Danny dedicated his entire career to the trade, following in the footsteps of his father and working alongside his brothers and his son. His commitment to his work and his union family was unwavering.

Danny found his greatest peace in nature. Whether hunting in the quiet morning hours, fishing by the water, or riding trails under open skies, he was truly at home outdoors. He also had a lifelong passion for motorsports, especially NASCAR and drag racing, always cheering on his favorite drivers with a sparkle in his eye. Danny was also an enthusiastic fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Indiana Fever.

But above all else, Danny’s heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather — a strong, steady presence who cared deeply and loved fiercely.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Melody Long; his children, Danny Jr. (Destiniy) Long and Angela (Trevor Casey) Long; his mother, Dixie Long; his brothers, Steve Long and Scott Long; and his cherished granddaughters: Isabella, Natalie, Mackenzie, Layla, Paislee May, and Oaklee. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Eugene Long.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Evergreen Church of Christ (2215 Evergreen Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50320).
