D. Kathleen “Katie” McCoy
Katie McCoy, 90, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, was called home to be with the Lord Dec. 9, 2020, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A private family burial service is planned at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
She was born in Knoxville, Iowa Jan. 24, 1930, to Horace Alton and L. Benita Zimmerman. She married Jack B. McCoy Feb. 11, 1950, in Knoxville. They lived on the southside of Des Moines and after they both retired they moved to Lakeview, Arkansas in 1994. She returned to the Des Moines area after Jack’s passing in 2004 spending her final years in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.
Katie worked at various clerical jobs in Des Moines and in her final role as bookkeeper at Pinkerton, Inc. She regularly attended church and held a strong faith in Jesus Christ. She enjoyed time with family and friends and sharing her love of cooking with them. She loved to play cribbage and solving the Jumble puzzle every day. Over the years she served as a loving caregiver for many family members.
Katie is survived by a daughter, Dee (Rick) Davis, son, Gary (Leanne) McCoy, a niece and nephew, Kelly (Randy) Hayes and Kevin (Patty) Zimmerman whom she raised, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, a sister, Kay (Blaine) Vriezelaar and brother, Howard Zimmerman and her dear friend of 71 years, Betty Manley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, daughter, Sheila Tounsley, sons-in-law, James Tounsley and Stephen Wirick and brothers, Ivan and Keith Zimmerman.
