Charles E. Long Jr. was born on January 24, 1957, in Ft. Riley, Kansas, and passed away on March 23, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa.
It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the peaceful passing of Charles E Long Jr. He was a highly skilled competitive diver at North High School 1970-1974. He is known for clearing Birdland Pool as he dove off the 33 ft board. His 35-year career included several years at Wilbert Vault and Waste Management (WM). Notably, in early 2000 Charlie prided himself in being part of the WM Convoy to Florida to assist with Hurricane Relief Efforts. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids sporting events, fishing, pitching for local fast pitch softball teams, hunting, and watching Nascar. He will be missed by family and friends who loved him throughout his life. GO HAWKS!
Survived by his Loving Companion, Diane Edge, Son Brian Long (Karey Long), Daughter Amanda Long, Son Alex Long, Daughter Katelin Long, sister Anna Long, sister Sheila Mason (Victor Colemon Jr), Sister Sherri Skay (Tim), Brother Ronald Mason Jr (Yessica Salazar), Grandchildren Kenzie, Zach, Chloe, Tyler, Ethan, Joe, Alex Jr.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ines Long; his father Charles E. Long Sr.; his step father Ronald Mason Sr.; and his brother Bill Long.
Charlie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside service for Charlie will be held on Tuesday March 31st, 2026, at 1:00PM at Carlisle City Cemetery (1221 S 5th St, Carlisle, IA 50047).
