Titus G. Schau
Battle Creek

Titus Schau, 93, was born November 10, 1914, in Crawford County, IA.  He passed away on July 26, 2008, at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, IA.  He was the son of Titus A. Schau and Minnie Pieper Schau.  Titus was baptized on August the 25, 1915, at the Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. IA.  He attended schools in Big Stone County Minnesota and Ida and Woodbury Counties in Iowa.

He was in the Civil Conservation Corp camp at Crossett and Hamburg, Arkansas from 1934 to 1935.  He served in the U.S. Navy from May 1936 until June 1940.  Two and one-half years of his service was spent in China. He also served in The Merchant Marines (The US Coast Guard) from 1943-1945. Titus attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering after his military service.

On June 10, 1946, he married Thelma Heath at Sioux City, IA.  Titus was self-employed in electrical, refrigeration and air conditioning business in Battle Creek, IA for over 45 years. He became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek in 1947 and served two terms as a Trustee when the church was built. He also served two terms on the Battle Creek Town Council.  For recreation, he loved to go fishing and camping.

Titus is survived by his wife, Thelma; children, Wil and Linda  Higa of Omaha, NE and Tom and Penny Schau of Baldwin, KS. His grandchildren are Beth Higa of Washington DC, Adam and Amy Studts of Papillion, NE and Sarah Schau and Nick Schau of Baldwin, KS. He also is survived by sisters, Elsie Eckhoff of Battle Creek and Helen Kinkade of Albert City, IA as well as many loving nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek, IA.
