Don L. Tew, 82, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008 in Ft. Myers, FL. Don was born on March 8, 1925 in Iowa City, IA. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. A Celebration of Life Service with Masonic Tribute will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd, Clive.
In Don's early high school years, he attended The Leelanau Schools in Glen Arbor, MI. Upon returning to Des Moines, he graduated from Roosevelt High School with the January Class of '43.
Don served in the US Navy during World War II attending the V12 Naval Program at St. Ambrose College in Davenport. After the war, he attended Drake University, graduating in 1949. On June 25, 1976, Don was united in marriage to Carolyn Alborn Tew, where they resided in West Des Moines until moving to Waukee in 2000.
He worked for Ronald Kenyon at Bituminous Material & Supply for over 38 years, retiring in December 1989. After retiring, Don loved the time he spent playing golf, wintering in Florida, volunteering for the Blood Center of Central Iowa and Hospice of Central Iowa, and spending time with his cribbage cronies at the Landings.
He was a member of the Model A Car Club, Early Thunderbird Club, Mercedes Car Club, Gnemeth Masonic Lodge #577, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. His favorite club was the Royal Order of Exhausted Roosters.
Don will be missed by his loving wife, Carolyn; children, Bradley Tew (Jane) of West Des Moines, Tamara Krimstock (Jody) of Carlsbad, CA, Christine Curry of Grenada, West Indies; stepchildren, Mindy Couch (Kevin), Brad Parker (Anne) and grandchildren, Ben and Hunter Couch and Delaney and Jack Parker, all of West Des Moines. Preceding him in death are his parents, C. Lyman and May (Irwin) Tew.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
