Billy Dean Bauer, 59, of Coon Rapids died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Coon Rapids American Legion hall.

A son of Donald and Pauline (Lambert) Bauer, he was born May 17, 1948, at Manning and spent his life in the Coon Rapids area.

Mr. Bauer was a veteran, having served in the Army in Vietnam.

He worked for Garst Seed Co. for 35 years.

He enjoyed horses, fishing and riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include special friend Anita Downing of Coon Rapids; two children: Marty and Dr. Ashlei Bauer and daughter Ava of Starkville, Ms., and Dawn and Jason Scott and children Chandler, Chloe and Carter of Glidden; his father, Donald Bauer, of Creston; three stepchildren: Jeff and Kimberly Downing and children Justin, Ryan and Megan of Indianola, Mark and Tammy Downing and chil-dren Devin and Madison of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Sarah and Jason Hart and children Taylor and Emma of Coon Rapids; three siblings and their spouses: Steve and Linda Bauer of Coon Rapids, Debbie and Rich Springer of Creston and Mike Bauer of Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Cindy Bauer, of Carroll.

Mr. Bauer was preceded in death by his mother; a brother, Larry Bauer; a niece, Amy Springer; and grandparents: Nick and Minnie Bauer, Fannie Lambert and Deloss Lambert.
