Vera G. Thompson Vera G. Thompson, 100, of Scottish Rite Park died there on Wednesday, October 4, 2007. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2007 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Burial of the cremains will take place in the Mitchellville Cemetery. Vera was born in Bethlehem, IA on January 28, 1907. She taught school at Millerton and Beech. In June of 1930, she married Howard Thompson. They made their home in Inwood and late moved to Mitchellville. She substitute taught in both towns where her husband was Superintendent of Schools. In 1958, they moved to Urbandale and for fifteen years she was a bookkeeper at Betts Cadillac. Since 1984, she had been a resident at Scottish Rite Park. Dedicated to her family, she also enjoyed sewing, cooking, interesting trips and winters in Mesa, AZ. Survivors include her son, John (Vivian) of Windsor Heights; grandsons, Eric (Lennie) of Kennesaw, GA, Evin (Vickie) of Virginia Beach, VA; two great granddaughters, Heather and Brittany and sister, Mary Agnes Armstrong of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, her parents, Orville and Leah O. Goodell and an infant brother, James. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mitchellville Public Library or Iowa Hospice. |
