Vernon “Vern” D. Hart, 74, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2007. Vern was born April 20, 1933. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After the service, he was united in marriage to his wife, Joyce, on May 27, 1956.

He is a graduate of Truman State University where he received his masters degree and he received his 6th year from Iowa State University. Vern served as an elementary principal for most of his life including five years at Phenix in West Des Moines, sixteen years at Fair Meadows and seven years at Clegg Park Schools in West Des Moines. Vern was a member of the Principal Association, First Assembly of God Church, and past member of the Izaak Walton League and Lions Club.

Vern will be missed by his wife of 51 years, Joyce; two sons, Bradley (Mary Lou) of West Orange, New Jersey, and Jeffrey of Des Moines; his brother, Charles (Deb) of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Katelyn, Emily, and Collin; and many friends and students that he guided over the years he dedicated to children’s education.
