Marlys Lenhart Marlys Lenhart, 94, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at West Des Moines United Methodist Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Marlys was born February 1, 1913 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She moved with her husband, Garrett to West Des Moines in 1941 and has resided here since. She loved to volunteer and do for others, worked as an Avon representative to the age of 90, was named West Des Moines Citizen of the year in 1975 and was presented a key to the city of West Des Moines in 1992 for 37 years of service to the West Des Moines Library. She was a 65 year member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church, Regional Library Board Trustee, West Des Moines Library Board member for 37 years, taught Sunday school at Crestview Acres for 30 years, member of Des Moines Federation, past president of West Des Moines Women's Club, Chairman of Polk County Heart Association Fund Drive and a volunteer for the Church Opportunity Group. In her spare time she was also a substitute teacher in the West Des Moines School District. Marlys is survived by two sons, Doug of West Des Moines and Skip (Cheryl) of Bondurant; two grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; two step-grandchildren and a brother, Bill Swan of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garrett A. Lenhart, Sr.; infant son, Jonathan Allan Lenhart; four sisters and one brother. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Memorials may be directed to her church. |
