Helen Louise Pontisso, 81, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, November 4, 2007, with family members by her side.

Helen was born on March 26, 1926, in Des Moines, IA, to Madalena and Giacomo Pontisso. She was the second of four children: Frank Pontisso (Des Moines), Joe Pontisso (Oceanside, California), and Erma Pontisso (deceased). She was also the proud aunt of eight nieces and nephews and five geat-nieces/nephews.

For most of her career, Helen was employed by Meredith Publishing Company where she worked for over 30 years. She enjoyed bingo at St. Anthony's, gardening, shopping and her beloved cat, Bailey. Those who knew Helen well also knew of her talents in the kitchen. She was an excellent cook, particularly northern Italian cuisine!

Above all, Helen Pontisso was devoted to her family and was the quintessential caregiver. She was like a second mother to her nieces who grew up in Des Moines, (Debra, Diane and Lisa Pontisso) and their cousins, (Rick, Gary and Mary Alice Adkisson). She also provided loving care for her elderly parents and her beloved sister, Erma, prior to and during their final days on earth.

Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. with a 5 p.m. Rosary, Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Care - Tonini Chapel, 2135 SW 9th St., Des Moines. Funeral Mass will be held in Helen's honor on Thursday, November 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, immediately followed by a burial service at Glendale Cemetery.
