Donald S. Powers
Donald graduated from North High School in 1937. He was married to Lucile Banning Powers on October 20, 1942, his best friend since kindergarten. Donald graduated from Iowa State University as a mining engineer, and worked throughout the U.S. on various projects as well as being a self-employed commercial structural engineer. Donald was the owner of Powers Engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Caribbean and Pacific, and also was called for duty during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 21 years from the Navy Reserve as Captain. He will be missed by his wife, Lucile; three children, Dianne Carter of Des Moines, Bruce (Roberta) Powers of Norwalk, Mary (Steve) Davis of Olathe, Kansas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Tuesday, October 9 at 11 a.m. at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will follow the service at Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer Association. |
