Norman Still, 78, longtime resident of West Des Moines and Urbandale died Saturday, September 30 at Hospice of Central Iowa – Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Norm was born April 8, 1928 in Davis City, Iowa to Pearl and Alvin Still. After graduating high school, he served in the US Navy for four years. He attended Graceland College and then transferred to Iowa State where he received his degree in Agricultural Journalism in 1955.

He married fellow journalist Ginny Wilcox on June 19, 1955. Norm was a writer and editor for many agricultural publications. He served on the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Agriculture committee, a position he thoroughly enjoyed. Later in life Norm sold real estate and did public relations and marketing until his retirement in 2002. His hobbies included woodworking, water gardening, and collecting antiques.

Norm is survived by his wife Ginny, son Tom Still (Robert DiBacco) and daughter Martha Wilson (Jim); two sisters Dorothy McDaniel and Bernice Tellier; grandchildren Ben and Anne Thomson, Bailey, Mallory and Jack Wilson and Katie and Michael Ball; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Betsy Still Thomson Ball and Annie Still Quade.

Norm was a man of few needs. He enjoyed being surrounded by family, a good scotch, a challenging crossword puzzle, a civil war novel, and his dog Buddy.

A memorial service and burial of cremains will be held at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 3424 Forest Ave., Saturday, October 28 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa-Kavanagh House, Betsy Still Ball Memorial garden at St. Lukes Church or the Annie Still Quade Memorial Scholarship.
