Norma Howard
Des Moines

Norma Howard, 74, formerly of St. Charles, IL. went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 13 2006, at her home, Wesley Acres. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, November 17 at 11:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Des Moines, followed by lunch and fellowship. Pastor John Palmer and Debbie Palmer will be officiating.

Norma was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 9, 1932 to Frank and Addy (Frady) Medill. She lived her early years in Mississippi and then returned to the Chicago suburbs.

During high school, Norma began working part time for Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. After graduation, she became a stewardess for TWA. During that time, she met and married Ken Howard, a TWA pilot.

After having their daughter, Cathie, Norma returned to the telephone company where she continued to advance over the next 30 plus years. Norma was a manager for several suburban offices, eventually settling in St. Charles, Illinois.

Norma took early retirement in the late eighties and found herself traveling and working as a part time model. She enjoyed her friends, family, playing cards and visiting her granddaughters.

Norma moved to Des Moines ten years ago to be closer to her daughter and family and because of health issues. Norma's faith and values made her a strong role model to her family and friends.

Norma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathie and Paul Thune of Clive and her granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah. Although her immediate family is small, Norma has always been surrounded by many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be given to Des Moines Christian School or the American Diabetes Association.
