David L. "Butch" Martin, Jr., 62, passed away on December 13, 2006 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was born July, 28th, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa to Betty and David L. Martin., Sr.

David is a veteran of the United States Naval Service, where he received a purple heart. He served in the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1967. David worked at Herschel Adams Corporation in Indianola for 17 years before retiring on April, 22, 2005. He enjoyed bowling and fishing with his brothers and grandsons. He enjoyed watching football and Nascar. He is preceded in death by parents, Betty and David L. Martin, Sr.

David is survived by his wife, Martha of 38 years; one son, Joseph Martin of Texas; two daughters, Deborah (Dean) O'Donnell and Vickie Martin Beckman, both of Des Moines. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, Donald Martin of Des Moines, Ronnie (Linda) Martin of Prairie City; four sisters, Pegi Peterson of Buena Park, CA, Ruth (Bill) Hopkins of Colfax, Jeannie (Bob) McDowell of Des Moines and Betsy Tonche of Des Moines. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

David will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at the Easton Place United Methodist Church at 2412 Easton Blvd, Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 3 p.m.
