Zola Prokop

Zola Ostring Wagner Prokop, 81, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2005 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital from a stroke.

Zola was born August 30, 1924, the daughter of Arnold and Wanda Fern Christy Ostring in Lockman, Iowa. They later moved to Waukee where Zola met and married her high school sweetheart, Bill Wagner. They were united in marriage on October 9, 1943. They had two daughters, Sally and Mary. Bill and Zola farmed near Maxwell for over 40 years. Zola was an accomplished watercolor artist and pursued her gift after retirement as an auditor at John Deere Des Moines Works. She won numerous awards and especially enjoyed displaying her artwork at the Iowa State Fair. Bill died December 1, 1985.

After the death of her husband, Bill, Zola met and married Elmer Prokop. They were united in marriage November 11, 1990. They lived on a ranch near Hay Springs, Nebraska. Elmer and Zola moved back to Iowa four years ago to be near her daughter, Mary. Elmer died January 15, 2004. After a lengthy illness, Zola moved to Westridge Care Center in Knoxville where she was a resident for the past two years.

Zola is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Dale Beukema of Bondurant, IA, Mary and Tom Willer of Otley IA; two step daughters, Betty and her husband Harold Bender of Lead, SD, Doris and her husband Norman Rasmussen of Missoula, MT; a step-son and his wife, James and Maria Prokop of Hay Springs, NE; two grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Paul Ostring of Cumming, IA, Harold Ostring of Lorimor, IA, Jack Ostring of Dunnigan, CA, and John Ostring of Des Moines, IA.

Zola was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bill Wagner and Elmer Prokop; and a brother, Gilbert Ostring.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with Rev. Bill McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery near Farrar.
