Robert Schulte, 76, died June 22, 2005 at home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Des Moines with Rev. Arno Melz officiating. Internment will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care in Clive.

Robert was born April 30, 1929 in rural Hanlontown, the son of Sylverne (Helland) and Willard Schulte. He graduated from Hanlontown High School and attended Luther College in Decorah. He served in Company F, 110th Infantry during the Korean War. Upon his return he began his career with Northwestern Bell, retiring from there in 1986.

He married Betty Stinehart on October 4, 1953 in Mason City, Iowa. To that union, five children were added.

Robert was a charter member of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Des Moines, where he was an active member.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Helen Thoen and her husband David of Manly; his daughter, Rebecca Blackburn and her husband Harry of Clive; four sons, Paul Schulte of West Des Moines, Richard Schulte and his wife Kari of West Des Moines, Dr. Douglas Schulte and his wife Katie of West Des Moines, Ronald Schulte and his wife Rochelle of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylverne and Willard Schulte.
