Maria Sciachitano Thorpe Maria Sciachitano Thorpe, 52, of 3100 Maury Street, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. Maria was born March 8,1953 in Des Moines, and was one of the six children of Tony and Utahna Sciachitano. She was raised on the south-side of Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. She is survived by her husband, Doug Thorpe who, after sharing 18 years together, exchanged marriage vows on July 1, 2003. She is survived by her son, Stephen Sciachitano; her granddaughter, Haley; three sisters, Renee, Toni and her husband Rex Kane, and Utahna and her husband Brad Grimm; and two brothers Dino and Rich, all of Des Moines; and her stepsons, Douglas R. Thorpe of Des Moines and Scott Carl Thorpe of Overland Park, KS. She also had three nieces; six nephews; and two great-nephews. A Mass will be celebrated in Maria's honor at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Des Moines on Monday, June 27 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her husband, Doug in loving memory of Maria. |
