On December 27, 2005, God took Jerry C. Hanson, cherished husband, father and grandfather to his final home in Heaven.

Jerry was born in Humeston, Iowa on December 13, 1942. He attended school in Humeston, graduating from Mormon Trail High School. During his lifetime, Jerry enjoyed several career opportunities until he became a double amputee. He then spent his time and efforts on the things he most enjoyed; the outdoors, craftmanship, his pets and most importantly, his family and friends. Jerry was an avid Cubs fan. In 2000, he and his wife were named "Iowa Cubs Fans of the Year."

Jerry will always be remembered by his family and many friends as a person who did not let a disability challenge him in life. He was caring and always willing to lend a hand to anyone. His outgoing personality and smile will be a legacy to all who knew him.

Jerry will be missed by his loving wife of 21 years, Helen; stepdaughters, Debra Hall of Las Vegas, NV and Paula Hardin (Scott); grandsons, Casey and Jackson of Omaha, NE; and he was honored to the be American parent of, Hongtao Liu of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Daryl Hanson (Linda); sister, Marilyn Hanson, both of Humeston, Iowa; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ankeny United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, at the church. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospital, Kidney Transplant Center or Ankeny United Methodist Church.
