GERALD LEE VANDER BROEK Gerald Lee Vander Broek, 69, formerly of Boone, Iowa died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa. Gerald was born July 14, 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Frank and Johanna (Roghair) Vander Broek. On January 4, 1959, he married Phyllis Jean Elsberry in Ogden, Iowa. Gerald graduated from Orange City High School. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City for one year prior to joining the Army National Guard Reserve for two years. He served in the U.S. Army for eight years, including 13 months of overseas service in Korea. Gerald was employed at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in Boone, Iowa after leaving the military and worked there until becoming physically disabled. His hobbies included antique cars, repairing and collecting antique clocks, leather working, sewing, woodworking, gardening, and grilling. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Phyllis Vander Broek of Madrid, Iowa; two sons, Frank Vander Broek and Diane Laird, companion, of Madrid and Robert and Kathy Vander Broek of Boone; one daughter, Julie Lyon of Boone; two grandchildren, David Vander Broek of Webster City and Amanda Pearson-Vander Broek of Nebraska City, Nebraska; three sisters and one brother. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother. Per Gerald's wishes
his body has been cremated. Internment will take place
at a later date. Memorials may be given to the family.
