Frank M. Chiodo Mass of Christian Burial for Frank M. Chiodo, 96, will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church of which he was a member. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2005 with a 7 p.m. Rosary at Tonini Chapel. Frank was involved in many organizations. He was active in Vittoria Lodge where he was a long time Board member, also, he was involved with the Society of Italian Americans where he was awarded outstanding Italian-American citizen of the year in 1990. Frank was owner and operator of the Union Tavern and the Market Buffet prior to retirement. He migrated to Des Moines from Soveria Mannelli Italy in April 1925. He learned the value of hard work through his work at a flower shop, in a brickyard, in highway construction and as a baker and restaurant owner. Frank was a very family oriented man who was proud of his Italian heritage and the many friends he had. He loved living in the home he shared with his beloved wife, Rose until the day before his death. Frank will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Rose; his children, Ned F.(Marilyn) Chiodo, M. Frances Chiodo, Monsignor Frank E. Chiodo and daughter-in-law Rosemary Chiodo; eight grandchildren, Frank, Jeff, John, Joe, David, Mara, Lisa and Theresa; and 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Alfred Chiodo; and sister, Maria Stella Marasco. He was preceded in death by a son Louie Chiodo. Memorials are suggested to St, Anthony's Grotto Fund. |
