Donald Laverne Oxenford
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol of 57 years; six children, Vicki VanEngelenburg (Gary), Toby Towers (Dean), Bruce (Linda) Oxenford, Jay Oxenford, Martha Noah (Dan), Nancy Cornelio (Rob); 27 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Paul (Pat) Oxenford. Don was born June 24, 1925 and raised in Scranton, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He married Carol Nelson in 1947. Don and family moved to the Des Moines area in 1953, where he worked at Armstrong Rubber for 34 years retiring in 1986. Don and Carol spent their retirement between their homes in Donna, Texas and their home of 43 years in Urbandale, Iowa. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend as witnessed by all the lives he touched. Don enjoyed cracking walnuts, canning garden produce and most of all, supervising family projects. He greatly enjoyed his family and will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Grace; brothers, Robert, Dean and John; sisters, Shirley, Ione, Adeline and Alice; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2005 at New Hope Assembly of God, 6800 Townsend, Urbandale, Iowa. Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 7975 University Blvd, Clive, Iowa. Per Don's request, cremation will follow the church service. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Central Iowa. |
