Bernice Long
She married Stanley Ross Long, Sr. on June 9, 1932. While living in and around Ft. Dodge, Iowa, they raised seven children, five of whom survive her. There are Jerry (Wanda) Long of Ankeny, Carol Minnehan of Denver, Colorado, David Long of Ames, Jean Long of Denver, Colorado, and Doris (Dean) Fenton of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She is predeceased by her husband, Stanley Ross Long, Sr.; son, Stanley (Glenda) Long, Jr.; son, William Long; and brother, Wilbur Hallett. She is also survived by her sister, Leone Hobbs of Escondido, California, as well as ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In 1954, she began teaching in one of the last one-room school houses in Iowa, moving to Lehigh school district when that school closed. From 1956 to 1972, she taught 4th grade in the Lehigh and Harcourt school districts. In 1963, Bernice and Stanley moved to an acreage near Otho, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 29 in the Chapel at Millpond Senior Community, 1201 Millpond Court, off Delaware in Ankeny. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 1 at Otho Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, cards or memorial gifts may be sent to Jerry Long, 726 SE Peterson, Ankeny, Iowa 50021. |
