Alexander (Alex) Barber, 88, passed away on December 16, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 20 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Alex Barber, devoted father and grandfather, was born in Des Moines on June 28, 1916 to Ned and Margaret Barber. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Priscilla; his grandson, Patrick; his great-grandson, Chase Eugene; and four sisters, Augustina, Clara, Margaret and Marie.

He is survived by his brothers, Nicholas and Ned; and seven children, Alex, Gregory, Ronald, Margaret Reseland, Michael, Steven and Jacalyn. He was the proud grandfather of 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Alex spent the majority of his life as a successful independent businessman in the Des Moines area. He was the founder of Farm and Home Builders, a successful home improvement business.

Alex was a Navy veteran and a member of the Society of Italian Americans. He loved to cook and work in his yard and enjoyed large family gatherings. He was also devoted to his faithful buddy, Scooter, who is now, and always will be with him.

Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Care-Tonini Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice.
